A creation by pupils at Quay Academy has been voted the favourite in the Promenades Shopping Centre’s Schools Art Campaign.

Twelve schools took part in the contest, which asked children to create huge murals with a ‘The Great Outdoors’ theme.

More than 2,000 shoppers visited the shopping centre’s website to vote for the one they liked best.

Quay Academy received 828 votes, Headlands School were second with 528 votes and Hilderthorpe School came in third place with 305 votes.

The Charity Choice Award – picked by the Promenades Shopping Centre’s charity of the year, Bridlington Scouts – was awarded to Bempton School.

Carl Brown, centre manager, said: “This is my third year being involved with the Schools Art Campaign and yet again I was amazed by the quality of the artwork produced by the schools.

“It’s great to see so many engage with the competition and vote for their favourite piece and have a little bit of friendly rivalry between the schools.

“Here at the Promenades, we actively try and engage with the local community in as many initiatives as possible throughout the year, such as our Charity of the Year, The Extraordinary People Awards and the Schools Art Campaign.

“The pieces of artwork will be on display throughout the Promenades if people wish to come down and enjoy them.”
