Quay Academy

Our school's friendly, communal atmosphere was noted by Ofsted with them describing us as, 'a happy and inclusive school where pupils behave well and develop strong relationships'.

Enrichment

We have a range of enrichment activities that ensure the children are provided with a range of experiences that enhance their learning and bring relevance to the curriculum.

Music

As a school, we really value the arts and recognise the positive impact it can have on our children’s learning. As part of this achievement, our school will be working with a diverse range of partners to deliver high-quality arts and culture education.

We are really proud of our music provision which is taught by Mr Wilson - a music specialist. Mr Wilson has worked at the school for many years. On top of his work here at Quay Academy he supports other David Ross Education Trust schools in Scarborough, Hull, Grimsby, Skegness and Grantham as their Primary Music Specialist. Each child receives music through 10 minutes of music everyday, taught by classroom teachers plus a further longer, 45 minutes of music per week. The children receive a varied curriculum where they experience a wide range of musical activities including playing different instruments that include ukuleles, recorders, glockenspiels, keyboards, hand bells and boomwackers. Each year group has the opportunity to perform their talents to family and friends at least once in the year.

Choir

We have a well-established Choir at Quay which rehearses weekly and perform at a number of events in and around Bridlington.

African Drummers – Rhythm is the Quay

Our African Drummers also rehearse weekly and were auditioned, with success, to perform at our trusts Primary Music Festival, Hull City Hall.

They also take part in the Music for Youth Festival in Hull where we received some fantastic feedback on our performance. Our performance was so good that they were invited to perform at the Music for Youth National Festival in Birmingham

Other Performances and Successes

Royal Opera House Partnership

Year 5 performed a bespoke version of Hansel and Gretel, at Bridlington Spa, alongside professional musicians from the Royal Opera House and Nevill Holt Opera. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to perform, to a live audience, with such high-class professionals.

Songwriting

Our Year 4 children took part in a song writing project led by Sam Dunkley at Performing Arts etc Ltd. We wrote a song called “It’s an excellent day to be me” which was been chosen by the East Riding Music Education Hub to be included in their song pack for the Big Sing events at Bridlington Spa.

Community Performance

Year 3 prepared a performance led by Mr Wilson called ‘Rhythm and Stomp Riversong’ this was performed on the streets of Scarborough, outside the Brunswick Shopping Centre on the afternoon of Friday 22nd June raising funds for the RNLI.

DRET Dance Festival

Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 came together to form a Dance Troupe which performed at our upcoming DRET Dance Festival at Hull City Hall. Nine other schools from the David Ross Education Trust came coming together on this day to rehearse and provide an evening of Dance.
